Public Education

Extraordinary schools lead to extraordinary communities. Milwaukee will never be any better than its schools. We cannot continue the trend of attacking and underfunding our public schools.

I served on school boards for more than 10 years and participated in a multi-state research project as a governance consultant. There are two important things a school board and a community must do to improve. First, to believe in their children! Children can learn at high levels regardless of their backgrounds. Second, to support research-based conditions in our schools. The world is constantly changing, and our children’s education needs to adapt alongside it!

In Wisconsin, a recent report showed that the average teacher’s salary is down 13% in the last 10 years. We need to bring back unions that will fight for the higher salaries and fair benefits our hard working educators deserve!

Far right wing groups like Mom’s for Liberty, the 1776 Project, and in WisRed are wrongly accusing public schools of indoctrinating students. They are trying to elect prejudiced school board members all across the country, views that include book bans, anti-LGBTQ+ policies and removing teachings about race and discrimination.
